I first became acquainted with enameling in 1965.
I started experimenting with the materials and ever since then has enameling
been a passion in my live.
I developed my skills gradually, including a week of learning at the enameller
Loek Lafeber.
I followed courses of Creative Crafts A+B between 1980-1985. Drawing and
Painting courses followed at the Academy in Nunspeet.
Since then I
have been an independent artist, having found my own inspiration and expression.
Though never taking part in workshops – in order not to be influenced
by other artist – I did follow the developments nationally and internationally
and visited exhibitions of modern art.
In time I found my own expression. My work is “worldly”,
with a touch of spirituality, both in plane and relief. The work is always
finished with zinc.
Between 1990 and 1995 I worked almost solely in white. Color was
being used on the invisible side of the relief, causing this color to
become visible only by reflection.
Afterwards I have made series where I incorporated enameled glass in
the panel.
These days I am using mostly transparent enamel powders. Because of this the color variation is endless and the copper background plays in this way an important role.
In 1983 the Society of Dutch Enamellers was found, of which society I
have been an active member from the beginning, partaking in committees
and management.
From 1997 till 2004 I was chairman of this Society.
In 2005 the Museum for Plane glass and Enamel art opened in Ravestein.
Continuing work of Dutch enamellers can be seen here, while occasionally
special attention is given to individual work from an artist or groups.
Since 1980 I expose in Musea and Galleries and participate in group exhibitions
in the Netherlands as well as internationally.
My work has been bought by individuals and by organizations.
